The Cap de Barbaria – in Spanish, Cabo de Berbería – is the southernmost point of the Balearic Islands, and one of the most visited and attractive places on the island of Formentera. Although the origin of its name is not very clear, it is possible due to its proximity with the African coasts, known like barbarian, from where it was attacked several times to the island.
The Cap de Barbaria is the most southerly point, that is to say to the south, of the Balearic Islands. It is therefore the closest point to the African coasts. But also, it is one of the most emblematic places of Formentera thanks to its well-known lighthouse and the hole through which you can access the cave foradada (the hole cave).
