2026 Eclipse in Formentera: 100 More Spots at Cap de Barbaria

Solar Eclipse in Formentera: 100 More Places to Watch from the Cap de Barbaria Lighthouse

The Consell Insular de Formentera has announced an increase in the available places for the special event organized at the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse on the occasion of the total solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12. They have added 100 additional places after the initial 440 places sold out, a sign of the enormous interest generated among residents and visitors to experience this exceptional astronomical phenomenon from one of the most picturesque viewpoints of the island.

Transport Restructured for the New Places

To accommodate these extra places, the island institution has restructured the shuttle bus service. The new seats will be integrated into the services departing from Sant Francesc at 18:00 and 18:50. Those who wish to book one of these additional spots must do so in advance through the event platform of the Consell Insular de Formentera.

Access to the lighthouse event will be allowed exclusively through the authorized shuttle buses, due to the special security measures in place for the day. It will therefore not be possible to reach the area with private vehicles.

Closure of the Cap de Barbaria Road

The road leading to Cap de Barbaria will be closed to traffic from the intersection with the Cala Saona road, from 16:00 to 00:00. During this time frame, only authorized vehicles and local residents will be allowed to pass, and they must present documentation proving their residency.

This restriction aims to keep the road clear to ensure a rapid response from emergency services if necessary, and is part of the broader security measures coordinated to allow all participants to experience the eclipse with maximum safety and comfort.

Formentera thus confirms itself as the last point in Europe from which it will be possible to observe the total solar eclipse on August 12, and the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse as one of the most sought-after places on the island for this unrepeatable event.
